Things Seen and Heard, (Paperback)

"Things Seen and Heard" is an engaging collection of personal essays and reflections by the distinguished scholar and theologian Edgar J. Goodspeed. Known primarily for his monumental contributions to New Testament studies, Goodspeed here turns his attention to the broader human experience, offering readers a series of vignettes that are both intellectually stimulating and deeply relatable.

The work comprises a variety of observations on life, culture, and the natural world, showcasing the author's keen observational skills and his dry, characteristic wit. From musings on the art of writing and the joys of discovery to contemplative pieces on the changing societal norms of his era, Goodspeed navigates diverse topics with elegance and clarity. These essays provide a window into the mind of a thinker who found wonder in both the extraordinary and the everyday. By weaving together personal anecdotes with philosophical inquiries, "Things Seen and Heard" remains a compelling example of the American essay tradition, highlighting the interconnectedness of academic rigor and personal narrative. This volume is an essential read for those interested in the literary side of one of the 20th century's most influential biblical scholars.

This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
